Model XL is the first body positive pageant of it's type and on Saturday 18th July the final took place.

The wonderful Sian Yapp was our winner and I managed to catch up with her after the event.

Firstly, how do you feel winning Model XL?

I am over the moon!

I was not expecting to place, and when my name was called out i was taken a back.

It is a privilege to win a Body positive Pageant which is based in the Midlands and near to my home town.

With this being a body positive pageant, what would you like to do with the title?

I would like to continue to promote body confidence for all shapes/sizes and sexes through my social media pages, but i would also like to go into schools and talk to pre teens and Teens.

We all have body hang ups at some point in our lives and i think it is important that we all share our story so that anyone struggling will know that they're not alone and it is ok to love who you are and do so unapologetically!

Can you tell me about your experience in pageants?

In 2013 i made my debut into the pageant world by becoming a finalist in Miss Plus Size International. I did not place Sadly, however the experience and knowledge i gained not to mention the connections i made really did change me. I was signed to two agencies and left my home town and family behind to move to London.

ModelXL was my Second Pageant that i decided to apply for, and it is fair to say that i have the Bug!

What opportunities have you had since entering?

I had the opportunity to model in StyleXl for some Incredible brands, not to mention a few other projects in the pipeline, keep your eyes peeled!

What is your proudest achievement as far as your modelling is concerned?

I have two to date.

Being on the front cover of BGP Magazine along with a page spread interview and photoshoot inside.

I love my body and i refuse to hide it to make others feel comfortable, however wearing a bikini to a beach it pool is different to a catwalk where everyone is staring at you and you have to seek that item of clothing.

What does the future hold for Sian Yapp?

The Future? I have some Fabulous shoots coming up with the Ladies of The Rubenesque effect. Not to mention working with you fabulous Leah to represent ModelXl.

Also to continue to Model and push the boundaries within the industry so more models of all sizes are seen.

What advice would you give to someone who would like to get in to Plus Size Modelling?

Ensure you sign to a well known agency (make sure you do your research) Develop a thick skin, unfortunately you're not going to be everyone's cup of tea (and that is ok) Be professional, be yourself and have fun most importantly!

Is there anything you would do differently?

I wouldn't change anything for the world. Everything happens for a reason and things are sent to test us, to simply prepare us for a better future.

And finally, who inspires you?

My Family are my Biggest inspirations! I come from a family of diverse sizes and was raised with the belief that what is in you head and your heart is the only thing that matters

My Parents are the most incredible people in the world who are so supportive in everything i do.
